Henry Peter Bosse
Photographs & Maps
Henry Peter Bosse, a 19th century photographer, draftsman and cartographer, worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers documenting their river modifications, the landscapes of the river valleys and small town river life along the way. He drafted some of the first topographic and navigation maps of the Mississippi River. He produced a series of blue tinted photographs known as cyanotypes documenting the Upper Mississippi River between St. Paul, MN and St. Louis, MO. Only five known complete albums of Bosse's cyanotypes are known to exist. A new ehibit features 60 images from the Army Corps of Engineers St. Paul District's album, perfectly captured and faithfully reproduced using advanced digital technology.
